Redwing Vaulters
The Redwing Vaulters were established by Katy Venters & Jody Campbell (then known as the 'Duppong sisters') in 1996. The Redwing Vaulting Team has traveled to multiple National Championships including Tennessee (1997), California (1998, 2000, 2001, 2017), Colorado (1999, 2003), Massachusetts (2002), and Oregon (2014).
Currently the Redwing Vaulters are a recreational group that does two showcases a year where we perform for family and friends showing what we have learned and sharing some of the fun that we have at the farm
What is Vaulting?
Vaulting is gymnastics and dance exercises that are performed on a moving horse that is being lunged. The horse is controlled by the lunger at all times which allows the vaulter freedom to express creativity and perform without worrying about the horse. Vaulters are taught how to perform moves safely and gently. Vaulting is an excellent way to learn body awareness, balance, harmony with the horse, and team work. Vaulting is also a great opportunity to learn about horses and many of the skills taught are applicable to riding.
Is Vaulting Safe?
Vaulting boasts one of the highest safety ratings in all the equestrian sports. The horse is controlled by the lunger at all times which allows the vaulter to focus solely on themselves and being harmonious with the horse. In addition, vaulters are taught how to dismount when the horse is moving as well as how to roll and adapt to unexpected or unbalanced dismounts. Vaulters practice exercises on a barrel, a stationary apparatus, prior to performing them on the horse.
